SMPC’s medical mission tackles HIV awareness and prevention in host communities

March 14, 2025

INTEGRATED energy company Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC) has always been a partner of its host communities on Semirara island for holistic community development. As part of this commitment, the company held their quarterly medical mission last March 6, 2025, for residents in barangays Tinogboc, Alegria, and Semirara in Caluya, Antique, with the aim of equipping them against the risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

In partnership with Provincial Health Office of Antique, 325 beneficiaries were given free HIV testing and screening services. The screening activity was further extended to SMPC employees to support their overall wellness and encourage a healthier workforce.

An HIV awareness symposium was also facilitated by Egbert Catabay, HIV Case Manager of Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital. The discussion detailed the importance of HIV awareness, its impact on the local community, and ensuring the well-being of individuals living with HIV.

The medical mission served as an important avenue for Semirara island residents and employees to learn about and prepare for potential health challenges. By offering free testing and educational discussions, SMPC is helping foster a healthier, more inclusive, and well-informed community.
