SMPC supports Caluya athletes at the Antique sports meet

December 23, 2024

Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC) provided sea transportation to 345 student-athletes of Semirara and Caluya to support their participation in the Antique Provincial Association Meet 2024 (APAM) held on December 4 – 8, 2024 in San Jose, Antique.

Several trips were arranged in MV Ma. Cristina Ferry to accommodate the athletes, their guardians, coaches, and faculty members. SMPC’s MV Ma. Cristina provides access to interisland sea transport to the community, with more than 163,000 passengers since 2016.

“My heartfelt gratitude to SMPC for the free sea transportation. Indeed, you are one of the reasons why we keep excelling and why the kabataang Caluyanhon keeps bringing honor to our beloved municipality”, said Benjie C. Alejo, PhD, School Principal II of Semirara Elementary School.

The Caluyanhon athletes bagged a total of 159 medals, consisting of 27 gold, 77 silver, and 55 bronze medals. This was also the first time that students from Semirara Island and Caluya Municipality participated in APAM as a separate cluster.

“We are glad that SMPC’s support enables these students to showcase their talents in sports, and more importantly, fueling their aspirations of making it big,” said Creslito D. Bangalao, administration division manager of SMPC.

SMPC aims to contribute to fostering youth and sports development in Semirara Island, inspiring young people to pursue their aspirations.
