Semirara Biodiversity Conservation Center (SBCC)

In 2018, Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC), in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE), established the Semirara Biodiversity Conservation Center (SBCC). It is dedicated to rehabilitating, protecting, and restoring biodiversity in areas directly and indirectly affected by our mining operations.

Encouraged by the success of the Semirara Marine Hatchery and Laboratory (SMHL) in 2010, we extended our efforts from propagating endangered marine species to preserving terrestrial wildlife and promoting sustainable land use.

SBCC actively engages with the local community through wildlife and biodiversity awareness campaigns, educational tours of its Aviary, and offering technical support for poultry and livestock livelihood projects. Additionally, it serves as a rehabilitation facility for rescued wildlife, extending its impact beyond the Western Visayas region.
